We have had a lot of switches, changes and differences than a typical school year and your students are learning and growing and there is a lot to celebrate! That being said, wait till you see the growth that really occurs when your student is here all day. It is amazing how much can and will happen in these next few weeks. In the meantime a few reminders: 1. This is the last week of hybrid learning! That means this is the last week of asynchronous work on Seesaw! Woohoo! I hope that you had a wonderful weekend! This week will be our last full week of school in March and conferences are at the end of next week. That being said, the conference schedule has been planned and you will receive your time for conferences today and tomorrow. Please let me know if for some reason your time does not work. I am looking forward to meeting with all of you and discussing the growth that your students have made in the last two trimesters! Last week, your students began working on their own word study sorts. Your students are really learning about different vowel patterns, blends and digraphs that make up words. We are also working on fluency in our reading groups. We are really focusing on pointing to each word while we read and taking the time to practice the reading strategies that your students hear in the lessons on Friday asynchronous work, now in person. We are also learning that great readers go back to the beginning of a sentence once they have figured out a tricky word or said a word wrong to make sense of the sentence and to practice reading with the correct word. In math, we practiced addition and subtraction using numbers 10 - 20. We worked on creating models and showing our work. We also had our classmates become the teacher and practice creating our own word problems. This week, we will continue working on our three finger writing stories. We will be learning about labeling our pictures, adding more details in our writing and making sure we are editing for punctuation at the end of the sentence. In math, we will continue to work on subtraction in word problems now along with addition. We will also practice sorting and looking at different patterns within shapes and numbers. Important Information 1. Your report card time will be emailed to you today and tomorrow 2. There is no school on Thursday, March 18th and Friday, March 19th for conferences 3. Spring Break begins March 22nd. School resumes March 29th. Please be aware of the travel rules. Please look at Mr. Hailpern's News You Can Use to understand the District guidelines on returning back in person the 29th versus the need to quarantine 4. Daylight Savings is this Sunday, March 14th! Get ready to change your clocks! As always, if you have any questions or need anything please do not hesitate to reach out! I am looking forward to a great week with your students!! Hi Room 115 Families!
I hope that you had a great weekend! We truly had a great first week back in person learning. I am so excited to see how much all of your students have grown and to be able to celebrate their hard work and learning in person now! This week we are going to continue to work on our Valentine's day letters. We have learned how to write the letter and now will be learning more about how to address an envelope and use a stamp! We are also going to be learning more too about how the mail works and how letters are truly sent! I have also begun reading with your students and checking in on their reading level. You will notice soon that your students will have updated books in Raz Kids as well as Friday Seesaw reading activities. I am so excited to see that your students are truly becoming readers! In math, we are continuing to work on our "teen-cicle" project. We are learning about the value of the teen numbers and understanding how place value works. We are exploring that teen numbers are made up of a group of ten and extra ones to really form the number. We will continue to use this concept and understanding of place value with bigger numbers. We are also continuing to work on shapes; their names, number of sides and corners. Important Information 1. There is no school on February 15th 2. February Scholastic Books are available now! Please CLICK HERE for the scholastic catalogue. You now have the ability to have the books sent to school or straight to your home! I will send in the order for books Friday, Feb. 12th! Our class code is: email me for class code 3. I am starting to add more pictures again to our class photo albums! Click the link in my signature to see some updated pictures of what learning looks like in class again! As always, if you have any questions or if you need anything please do not hesitate to reach out! I am looking forward to another great week with your students! Hi Room 115 Families,
What an incredible first two days back! Your students have hopped right back into routine and are doing a wonderful job! It truly has been so nice and exciting to be back together. I cannot get over how much they have grown not only in height but really being able to see their learning in person and not through a screen! We have updated the students "finished work" folder (the blue one) with a transportation list on the front. This is a great way to continue the conversation of how your students will go home from school and help them to be independent in their routine. This will also be the folder that comes to and from school everyday. This will allow you to send notes, or for your students to bring home their work from school. The gray, green and black folders from the previous months will stay at home. Fingers crossed we will be able to stay in person, but if for some reason we do go back virtual then your students are already prepared with materials at home. In class we are going to dive in deeper in understanding the teen numbers. We are not just learning them as a number but truly understanding the value of them. In literacy, we are working on our sight words, writing, and will begin reading groups next week. Unfortunately, because of COVID, we will not be celebrating or passing out Valentines in class. But, we are doing our very own Valentine's day writing project, where we will be writing letters to our classmates, learning about the mail system, stamps and more! This will be our way of celebrating and passing out Valentine's in class! As for the Asynchronous work, that will continue through Seesaw and S'more on Otus. Important Information: 1. If there is anything currently in your students blue take home folder, it is at your discretion at what you would like to do with it. I know that we have worked on all those letters, those are for you to keep at home! 2. Snow Pants: Some of you have inquired about the need to bring snow pants to school. Your student will not need snow pants at school. I am hoping there will be a day that we can schedule an outdoor play in the snow, if that is the case, I will send you with information prior to it so that your student can be prepared. 3.A note from the Library: The iRead contest is wrapping up this week. Here are some important things to know.
Thank you for supporting our students with this exciting contest! I truly cannot begin to tell you how great it has been getting back into routine and learning with your students in person. I want to thank you all again for your help and support through virtual learning. It truly would not have been successful without your help in getting your students set up! Have a wonderful evening and I am looking forward to seeing all your students tomorrow! Hello Room 115 Families!!
I hope that you had a wonderful first week back last week and a good weekend! It has been so nice to see all of your students again and get back into routine! Last week we created our new zoom rules and expectations for learning online together! We focused on our 1 is a Clam and 8 is an Octopus book! We learned new reading strategies about how to predict, think about the problem, predict a solution, and compare our solution to the actual solution of the book. This week, we will do our last sort, work on some more writing and reading strategies. As you know, we have a word of the day. By the end of this week, we will complete the first three columns of sight words that your students should know. I will later share with you a copy of the first three lists in case you want to continue working on them as well! In math, we are completing the 1 is a Clam and 8 is an Octopus book. We will have a catch up day tomorrow where students will have the opportunity to check and make sure each page has the right number of animals and work, as well as finish the pages they need if they are behind. If for some reason your student does not complete all 20 pages by the end of the day tomorrow, it is at your discretion on completing the book. Please hold on to this book, for we will be placing it on our binders when we eventually come back to school! We then will be reviewing and learning new math strategies and practices the rest of the week. Important information 1. iWeek began on Saturday! While this is optional, it is a great way to dive into books with your students and help create a motivation to have the most minutes not only as a school, but as a class as well! Please CLICK HERE for the parent letter 2. Last week to order books from Scholastic for the month of January. Please CLICK HERE for the scholastic catalogue. Please remember to press select SEND TO HOME so that your books can be delivered straight to your home instead of school! Our class code is:QC42X 3. There will be a student material pick up this week. It will most likely be on Wednesday, January 13th. I will share more information with you about that later. 4. I have had some emails and questions about next steps for virtual v. hybrid learning coming back. Please know that there is a board meeting tomorrow if you are interested in learning more about the plan. 5. I will be adding to our GoodReads bookshelf soon for new and updated books if you are looking for some suggestions for iRead! Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Have a wonderful Monday and you will hear more from me soon! Good morning Room 115!
I hope you had a wonderful winter break and happy New Year! Welcome back! It was so great seeing your students yesterday and being able to get back into routine! I wanted to give you a bit of an update as we begin learning again about materials, topics and school information! 1. Student iPads were updated over winter break! Please make sure that your student is logged into their gmail account to have access to activities and videos that may be shared through smore or Seesaw 2. Weather Unit Asynchronous Work: For the next couple of weeks we will be learning about weather in literacy. Your student will be completing a weather journal everyday. They will be drawing, looking at the temperature, and keeping track of the weather in tally and bar graphs. There will be a Seesaw activity for your student to do this online, but, if you have a printer and would like your student to do this with paper and pencil that is an option as well. Or you can mix and match, and print up the data page and have your student do the drawing and temperature page on Seesaw. You can download the pages here or use the smore board to print from! Journal Page - Weather Data Page - Weather 3. January book order: This month we are doing another scholastic order. Please CLICK HERE for the scholastic catalogue. Please remember to press select SEND TO HOME so that your books can be delivered straight to your home instead of school! Our class code is: email to ask 4.iRead is here!! I am so happy to see them and to hear that you all had a great winter break! Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions! Hello Room 115 Families!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are having a great start to the week! It is hard to believe that conferences are beginning next week! This is a short and simple email of reminders and heads up. You will also be getting an individual email from me letting you know of your conference time later! 1. This week is the Virtual Book fair! Please check the News You Can Use for more information about it! There will also be different activities throughout the week that you can log into virtually and see or watch pre recorded readings of books from teachers! (You will see a read aloud from in there!) 2. Braeside library is now ready for book check out!!! Please watch this video so you can start to check out books from school to read at home! Click here for the video! 3. PM CLASS ONLY: There is no live art zoom tomorrow, Tuesday 10th. Please check in your asynchronous lessons for information from Mrs. Pressman 4. Now that we are comfortable in our zoom synchronous sessions, I ask for your help on one thing. Please remind your students that toys and stuffed animals have to stay on the side until learning is done. I have reminded students that just like in school, we cannot bring our toys with us, the same goes for our zoom sessions. This will help us to stay organized, follow directions and be ready to learn so that we can continue to be successful! If you could also reiterate this with your students, it would be greatly appreciated! 5. Change of Student Schedule - Due to conferences, we do have a different schedule for students on Friday, November 20th and Tuesday November 24th. Friday, November 20th:AM Synchronous/Asynchronous class is cancelled. only PM class will be held (Asynchronous & Synchronous 12:55-3:10) Tuesday, November 24th: PM Synchronous/Asynchronous class is cancelled. Only AM classes will be held, synchronous (8:40 - 10:55 am) and asynchronous. I know the schedule change for next week is a bit confusing, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions! Again, I will reach out to you later with your conference time in a separate email! Hi Room 115 Families!
We hope you are having a great week! Here is the sign up for conferences. This year conferences will be held on November 18th, 19th, 20th, 24th and 25th. We will send you your allotted conference date and time on Monday, November 16th. Please email me if you need the link to sign up for conferences! Hi Room 115 Families!!
I hope that you have had a wonderful weekend and Halloween! It was so much fun celebrating with your students on Friday, I hope that you were able to enjoy it yesterday! I just wanted to share with you the instructions for your students for the assessment and remind you of that schedule change for tomorrow. Please read the directions on how to set up your students assessment here: Otus Assessment Directions. Please remember that I will be letting your students leave our class zoom 25 - 30 minutes early so that they can spend the end of our class time taking this assessment. The assessment does not work while your student is on Zoom which is why they will leave our class time early. While your students are taking the assessment, I will continue to be in our class zoom until our time together is up. If you have any questions or something is not working, you can come back to our class Zoom and I will be available to help as best as I can! Again, I please, please urge you to allow your student to do their best work and do the best they can with answering the questions from the assessment. I appreciate your help in getting them set up or moving from question to question. But the best way I can truly see how your students are doing is if they send in the answers however they do. Especially with conferences and report cards around the corner, it is important that I can see what your students know independently. With that being said, please also keep in mind that I am well aware that learning like this and that this assessment does not provide a full snapshot of who your child is and that I use this as just a series of things to measure how they are doing. Reminders: 1. No School Tuesday, November 3rd - Election Day 2. Look out for my next email with Conference Sign Up and Information 3. Otus Assessment Directions Thank you for all your continued help and support with learning at home. I truly appreciate it! Please, please reach out if you have any questions or you need any help with anything! |
