I hope that you had a great week. We had an incredible Red Ribbon week celebrating and learning about being healthy and how to lead a healthy life style. We had so much fun with sweatshop on Tuesday, a healthy walk around school on Thursday and spirit day Friday to name a few! As a class, we also learned about solids and the Tower challenge providing us with the opportunity to take part in creating our own towers.
Reminder, this Monday is our Halloween parade and party! Please let me know if you are picking up your student to have them change at home. Remember to bring your student back by 12:40 because the parade will start promptly at 12:50! If your student is staying at school make sure their costume is in a bag so they can change into it after lunch. Looking forward to the exciting events of this week!

It was so nice to get back to a normal week, and an exciting one at that! We had a wonderful time meeting and hearing stories from author Adam Rubin. We celebrated our second classroom bucketfiller reward of wearing a hat to school. Our next classroom goal is focusing on beginning our work right away which follows one of the 4B's, being ready to learn; as well as taking responsibility for ourselves and our learning! Our next celebration will be 200 pom pons for a pajama party. Next week, October 23-28, Braeside School will participate in Red Ribbon week. The theme is #YOLO - You Only Live Once, so make it a healthy one! We will be focusing on making healthy choices all week. The character crusaders have organized the spirit week activities as followed: Monday- Pajama Day Tuesday- Comfortable Clothing/Workout Gear Day Wednesday- Wacky Wednesday :mismatched clothing, fun hair styles (no colored hair spray), fun socks, etc. Thursday- College/Sports Day (Healthy Walk around the school*) Friday- Color Day KDG: Red 1st- Orange 2nd-Yellow 3rd-Green 4th- Blue 5th- White Tuesday - The Sweat Shop will be coming to Braeside to present a positive and energetic assembly focusing on making healthy choices. Thursday - Healthy walk around the school. The Character Crusaders are asking each student to donate a can of soup to participate in the healthy walk. The canned soup will be donated to the Moraine Township food pantry, benefiting local families in need. Remember spirit days are fun but also optional! Have a wonderful weekend and looking forward to seeing you all next week! Check out our experience during the cardboard challenge! Note: the video is private, you can only watch it if you have the link! We had a great two days diving back into routine! We spent time crafting powerful endings, looking at different word patters, exploring solids and learning more math terms such as greater than and less than.
We also took a deeper look into what having a growth mindset is. In our class we have made a promise to ourselves and to each other to continue to have a positive mindset providing us with the opportunity to learn about the power of yet. We determined the characteristics of a fixed and growth mindset to better understand how we can grow, motivate and put in the effort that shows there is nothing that each student can't set their mind to and accomplish. We read What Do You Do With a Problem by Kobi Yamada and watched two videos by Dojo about following the main character Mojo as he learns and teaches by example what growth mindset looks like. I am excited to already see a change in each of the students language as they continue to work towards the power of YET and knowing that they are capable of achieving growth and learning new things. Please feel free to ask your students more about growth mindset and how we are using it in school! Here are some of the videos and books we have looked at to help us learn more about it. What Do You Do With a Problem What Do You Do With An Idea The Power of Yet Growth Mindset Chapter 1: Mojo Growth Mindset Chapter 2: Mojo Hope that you had a wonderful long weekend, and a great day back to school and work! I know we did! Just wanted to let you all know that tomorrow is national bike or walk to school day for those of you who live near by!
Also I wanted to remind all of you that there is early dismissal on Friday October 7th at 1:00pm! I wanted to thank you for all of the great boxes you have been bringing in and please continue to send in any more if you have them! We are so excited to start building this Thursday! Hello 109 Families!
I hope that you are all enjoying a wonderful long weekend! We truly had an incredible last week. Stay tuned for pictures from the Cardboard Challenge! Our students had the opportunity to build a blueprint in preparation to building with cardboard boxes. They listened to the stories Iggy Peck Architect and Not Box to help them imagine different possibilities of creations. They collaborated with the other classes in order to create what they imagined and brought it to life! We also finished our base ten block and notation format unit in math and moving on ahead. In literacy we are looking at how change effects how a main character responds to challenge or major event and how they can overcome it. In writing now we are focusing on creating a POWERFUL ending to our small moment story! Check out the photos below to see how the different text we looked at to learn about strong endings. Also forwarded just now was an email in case you wanted to order a book from the visiting author to be signed for each student then. Please make sure you turn that in THIS Thursday the 13th! We are very excited to have Adam Rubin come and visit. As a reminder we do not have school tomorrow because it is an Institute day, and then no school on Thursday for Yom Kippur. |
