Hello Room 108 Families,
I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!! Time is flying and we have a very busy week! This Wednesday we have our very first MAP test in reading. Please make sure your student goes to bed early and eats a healthy breakfast! We will begin MAP testing at 9am. Remember your students are given as much time as they need to complete this. Encourage them to take their time, read the directions two times, and to stay positive throughout the whole test. This is just for us teachers to see their growth and to pass the information along to the third grade teachers so they know where your students ended second grade. Otherwise, this week we will be seeing the fourth and fifth grade show tomorrow afternoon. In math we are looking at adding and subtracting with larger numbers along with looking at measurement still. In reading we will begin our literacy circles soon. The students chose what book they would like to read today and be learning more about what a literacy circle is. In social studies we are taking a closer look at the people who make up our community. In writing we have begun poetry! Your students are doing an incredible job using their poets eyes to be creative and make ordinary objects come to life! As a reminder of some other dates coming up: MAP test for math May 23 at 9am No school May 25th for records day No school May 28th for Memorial Day Tikki Tembo May 31st at 1:40 pm in the music room June 1st Field Day June 8th Last day of school A lot happening in our final weeks of second grade! I cannot believe how fast it has gone by. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Good Morning Room 108!!
I hope that you all had a fabulous weekend enjoying the warm weather! This week is very exciting for us! Our butterflies came out of their chrysalis this weekend! In the next day or so we will be releasing them outdoors! We are also still growing our pea plants in the classroom. We will be sending them home. Some of them are getting ready to have pea pods grow on them! Just now we had our writing celebration. Students shared some of their opinion letters that they have written for their final. Those will be sent home today for you to see. We will be beginning our poetry unit next. This is very exciting because this is the first all typing unit that the students will have to get them ready for third grade. We will be drafting our poems on paper, but the final copies will be typed up instead of written neatly in black pen. In literacy we will be beginning a book study soon. Students will have the opportunity to choose a Horrible Harry book that appeals to them and will be studying that book with a group of students who also want to read that book. In math, we are beginning to look at fractions. Last week we started looking at centimeters and comparing it to inches. In social studies, we are going to begin looking at what makes a good community member and the types of people that make our community better. Some dates to keep in mind, we will begin MAP testing next week. We will do one MAP test on Wednesday the 16th and the 23rd. It will be first thing in the morning from 9-10am. If you know of any appointments for your students or are planning any please try to have them after those dates. This will be the final test of the year! The week of May 21st will be the last day to turn in library books. If your student has any books overdue you will get a list coming home from Mrs. Hales in the next week or so. Finally, our Tikki Tembo performance is also on May 31st, and field day is June 1. A lot is happening at the end of the year! I cannot believe how fast time has gone by! Please let me know if you have any questions! Otherwise have a wonderful week! |
