Hi Room 115 Families,
I hope that you had a wonderful weekend and start to the week! Last week was a busy but fun week as we celebrated red ribbon week and halloween. We spent the week learning about kindness, respect, gratitude and the importance of helping others and our community. Last week in relationship to learning about the letter O, we also learned about circuits in science. We related the shape of the circuit to the letter O and created one using a battery, light bulb and two wires. We learned about how electricity is formed, and that when there is a break in the circuit that is when our lights turn off. You will see your students work soon on SeeSaw of what they learned. We also had a pumpkin math task, where we learned about estimation and problem solving. In math we are also learning about different shapes. We are learning about their edges, corners and the difference between 2D shapes and 3D shapes. In science we are going to begin exploring the way the seasons work and how they change. We also had a wonderful Halloween party where we made slime, created picture frames and played games. It was so much fun to see everyone dressed up. Please check the website to see pictures! This week we will continue to add two more letters to our group. Please continue to encourage your students to practice sounding them out or making words at home. You can even have your student go on a word hunt in a book you are reading with them in identifying familiar words. We are also working on segmenting words, beginning and final sounds of a word and rhyming! In math we are going to continue to explore shapes. In social studies, we will be beginning to explore different types of communities such as the city versus the suburbs versus rural areas. Later this week I will send out information about the book fair and lunch with a loved one that will be happening next week! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask!
