Hi Room 115 families!
I hope that you had a wonderful weekend! We are back to a regular week of school and your students are already off to an incredible start! Last week we spent a lot of time bringing Halloween into the classroom through different class projects and tasks. In math we focused on estimation and figuring out how many seeds are in a pumpkin. We counted by 10's and used ten frames to figure it out. We also figured out different ways to count and add by finding out how many pumpkins are in the pyramid tower. In literacy we worked on Halloween syllables, looking at how to break words up into 1,2, or 3 parts. We also spent time researching for our pond book, taking notes and drawing diagrams on the different things we have learned. We are continuing to learn new letters and practice sounding out each letter and blending it together. This week in math we are starting a new project. We are working on creating different combinations of 10 with the help of Lego Emmet. We are using legos to help show us the value of the number and seeing the different ways that adding up to 10 can look. In literacy and science we are going to start doing some pond writing. We will be taking our pond notes and diagrams to create a pond research guide of all that your students have learned. We will also continue to learn a couple more letters and do some picture sorts. These sorts allow your students to think about first letter sounds and matching the categories together. In social studies we are continuing to work in our communities and building our map. I wanted to thank those of you who sent in a Halloween candy counting video! The students had so much fun seeing each video and how much candy everyone collected! We then graphed our data to practice looking at what data collection means. Important information 1. We have early release this Friday (the 8th) at 1:40 2. I am sending home the next November book flyers. I plan on placing the order for your books on Monday November 11th. I know we do not have school that day but I would like to make sure you get your books before conferences! You can order books online at this website:https://clubs.scholastic.com/home using our class code of QC42X 3. There is no school on Monday November 11th because of Veterans Day If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ask! Looking forward to a great week with your students! |
