Hi 109 Families!
I hope that you all had a fantastic long weekend! I am sorry for the late email! I began writing a thank you and good luck email for how special this year has been. BUT! I am not ready to begin any goodbyes, I must wait. But I do hope that I can see many of you in person to thank you for an amazing year! I am having a hard time knowing that this year is coming to an end. This is a very special class to me. Last week was busy with finishing our Genius Hour presentations, we studied fables and nursery rhymes with Mrs. Ozawa. We worked together with Mrs. Prestinarios class on problem solving and teamwork. We even had a special writing gues, Dana Schwartz, as an author visit and writing lesson. Dana and I went to Edgewood and Highland Park High school together. She is now an author and has published her first book, as well as one of the writers for Conan O'Brien and for the Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert. She shared her stories from district 112 and what it means to be a writer! She helped teach us tips for what all writers should know and do! As for this week! We will do our Genius Hour Presentations this Thursday! Friday is Field Day. Fingers crossed for no rain, but if it does we will be having Field Day then on Monday! We have also begun looking at third grade skills and learning new ways to prepare and feel ready for third grade. I have no doubt in my mind that Room 109 will finish this school year feeling ready to tackle the challenges of third grade! I am so proud of all of their work from this year! Tomorrow is soak up the sun day, please feel free to bring in towels or flip flops, and sun glasses. I am so excited for the celebrations and days ahead! Please make sure if you are around school to stop by or I will look for you after school to just share my thanks in person on such a fantastic year before the last day next Friday!

Hi 109 Families!!
I hope you had a lovely week! We have been busy here getting ready for the end of the year and celebrating each countdown day! This week was our 2nd grade kickball game, we wrote the 1st graders letters getting them ready for second grade and survived the hot day on Jammie day! Besides the fun celebrations we completed our last math unit of skip counting by different numbers (relating it to multiplication) as well as odd and even numbers, we will beginning reviewing past skills and look into some third grade math to help get us ready and feeling comfortable going into third grade. We watched our butterfly come out of its chrysalis, helping us to learn more about how the life cycle works. We went outdoors for National Outdoor Classroom day for reading, writing and science. Next week besides being a short week, on May 24th is our 2nd Grade Picnic for "P Day" and we would love your help! If you are willing to send in items to help make our picnic extra special, that would be wonderful! Some ideas might include sending treats, fruit, juice boxes, or some blankets to sit on. Please let me know if you are interested in this, and we can begin to coordinate. Snacks or treats must be peanut-free. Students will either be eating their pre-ordered hot lunch that day or the lunch they bring from home. Anything extra you might send would just be a bonus treat! Thank you in advance for helping to make our 2nd grade picnic memorable. Keep your fingers crossed the weather cooperates! If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask! I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Happy Mother's Day!
I hope that you were all able to have a wonderful day and enjoy the nice weather! Last week we celebrated writers conference, had a story teller, learned multiplication and division, studied the life cycle of a butterfly and more! As we head into this week we will be looking at how even and odd numbers are related and how their patterns can help us within adding and subtracting. We will be finishing our unit of what it means to be a good citizen in social studies! We have one last unit to go -- how time has flown! This week in science we will be looking at our plants that we have grown and how they transfer their seeds to grow new plants, and relate that life cycle to that of a butterfly. In literacy we are finishing up our lit groups and will be then reviewing decoding skills for fiction and nonfiction text! Heads up! Tomorrow is Pajama (J- Jammie day): it will be hot tomorrow and if students choose to wear pj pants please make sure they have a spare pair of shorts in their bag so they can change if it becomes to warm for them! The year feels like it is flying now! If you have any questions about anything please do not hesitate to ask! Do not forget to look at the website for pictures of everything that we have been doing in class!! Hello 109 Families!
I hope that you have been having a good weekend! Last week we explored adaptations in plants and animals. We began studying arrays and how multiplication and division are related. We are exploring how laws are made in communities and what it means to live and be apart of a safe and successful community. We also began our final genius hour! Students have chosen and drafted their plans to begin their research on their final genius hour project. We will spend each Thursday this month working on it and will have the project completed by June 1st! This week is an exciting week because we will be celebrating what it means to be a writer. Tomorrow, Monday May 8th, the whole school will be coming together and celebrating our year of writing and what it means to become an author. All students have been split up amongst the different grade levels and paired with a teacher to explore the different styles of writing. This will be a wonderful opportunity for students to see what they have learned this year and where their writing will go as they continue to move on to each grade level. They will also be receiving feedback from other students and how to continue to grow as an author and writer. Then, in the afternoon we will have a guest writer come and teach us different techniques of writing. The rest of the week will go on as usual as we continue to celebrate the end of second grade! I am looking forward to writers week and all that we have ahead!! |
