Hello Room 108!!
Welcome to second grade!! I am so excited that we have begun the school year! This week we started to create and set up our routines and procedures, learned about being bucketfillers and creating our classroom community! We had our first problem solving Friday in math. In writing we began to review narrative and informational writing styles. Next week, we will be diving into reading strategies to use this year, place value, and our first science unit! Some big events to know about for next week! Tuesday, the 29th, is open house. There will be three sessions, the first one begins at 6:30p.m. in the classroom. The second session is in the gym with Mr. Hailpern, then a third session afterwards back in the classroom. The first session and third session (in the classroom) will be the same. This will allow parents who have more than one child at Braeside to visit both teachers. Next week we will also begin MAP testing. Knowing that it is your students first exposure to MAP testing, I want you to know that this is about the test taking experience and learning how to take an online assessment. This assessment will also help to build data on your student that will help provide me with the knowledge of what levels they are at and where I can help continue their growth. As of right now the plan is to begin MAP testing on Wednesday and Thursday. I will give you another update on which day is the reading test and which day is math. We also have early dismissal on Friday! It will be an exciting week as we get into our first (almost) full week of school! I am looking forward to learning with your students this year and partnering with you to make it a great school year! If your student has not brought in a photo of themselves please feel free to email them to me, or send them in for Monday for our first project! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask! Looking forward to meeting you all at open house!
