Good Morning Room 108 Families!
I hope that you have had a wonderful weekend! This week we are very excited for our big show on Tuesday! There will be two performances one at 10am and then the other at 2pm! As a reminder, students will have to stay after the performance. All of the students have been working hard, I cannot wait to see the final show! This week we are beginning many new units! In math we have begun to look at measurement. We have learned about inches, feet and yards. We have learned how to compare the different measurements and convert them! In writing we are ending our informational unit and should have our writing celebration this week! Our next unit of writing will be opinion! We will also begin a new science and social studies unit. Our two units will be going hand in hand as we begin to look at sand, silt and rocks in science. In social studies, we will be looking at landforms, how they are formed and where they are located. I am looking forward to seeing you all this Tuesday if you can come! As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email or call!

Good morning Room 108 families!!
I hope that you have enjoyed your weekend! We have been very busy in Room 108 and I am excited to share with you some of the things we have been working on! First and foremost, we are getting very excited about our musical performance on January 30th. We have been having rehearsals and practice with the whole second grade getting ready to put on a wonderful show for all of you! In class we finished our research on penguins. We learned how to take notes and place them in a graphic organizers, we also worked on highlighting the important information. We are now learning how to use Google Drive. Here we are making google slides presentations on the research that we have learned. In reading we have been working on different reading strategies. We have learned how to ask WH questions, monitor our own reading and comprehension, how to use a KWL (Know, Want to know, Learned) chart , and how to write a short summary. This week we will be focusing on who is doing the speaking in the text, and using text evidence and the story to help us identify the speaker. In math we have begun our measurement unit. We have learned the difference between inches, feet, and yards. This week we will be using these different measurements and have time to explore how these forms of measurements are connected. In writing, we will be finishing up our informational writing pieces and getting them reading for publishing! I am looking forward to seeing our final copies and the hard work that your students have put in to making them! The next unit of writing we will be working on is opinion. Finally, we will beginning another research project in the library to study famous African Americans. Some exciting things happening this week will be a visit from Benjamin Franklin, teaching us about his life. Along with a visit from the Edgewood chorus. A reminder on events coming up. Braeside skate night is January 28th, our music concert is January 30th!The Character Crusaders and the Braeside PTO are holding a canned soup drive to help restock Moraine Township’s food pantry. The drive will run from Monday, January 22 through Friday, February 2. Whose class will collect the most cans? Each class will represent an NFL team, and the class that donates the most cans will “win” the Braeside Soup-er Bowl! Donating is optional, and thank you for your support. Have a wonderful rest of your weekend! Looking forward to a great week! Hello Room 108! Welcome back and I hope that you have all had a wonderful winter break and happy New Year! We had an incredible first week back, and I am so excited for what we have ahead! This past week we reviewed expectations and goals to continue to find success for our last half of the year! In reading we reviewed how to ask WH (who, what, where, when, why & how) questions, using text evidence to assist us! In math we began our numbers corner unit in Bridges. Each day we will dive into fractions, calendars, graphs, comparing numbers and more. We are also working on two digit addition with regrouping. This week will be looking at how to regroup with subtraction. In writing we will be continuing writing about what we are experts in for informational writing. Finally, in social studies we are looking at maps and how to find where places are using a compass. Some exciting things we have ahead are getting ready for genius hour! I will share more later on the topic, but, students are learning how to think outside the box and use research to create their own ideas and inventions. We are studying penguins and learning how to research and put information into a graphic organizer with note taking. We are getting ready for our music concert on January 30th! We will have two performance times, one in the morning at 10am and one in the afternoon at 2pm! iRead is also happening in the month of January. On January 8th (Monday) we are having a whole school DEAR (drop everything and read) to celebrate the importance and fun of reading. Our homework for the month of January will be filling out the iRead Log with our reading minutes! If for some reason your student did not bring home their iRead form, I have extras for them! Please remember that we have early dismissal on Friday at 1pm, and no school on Monday, January 15th, for MLK day! Hope you enjoy your Sunday and looking forward to a great week!! |
