Hi Room 115 Families!
I hope that you had a good weekend and that you are enjoying the sunshine of this week! This email will have new information about what learning is changing to at the moment. I know that there has been a lot of news and things changing in our learning world, as I have more information I will share it with you, but for now here is the latest update! This is a long email with a lot of information. I do apologize but it shares how to find lessons and what the new lessons are. Your students will now be getting lessons that have been designed by Miss Smith and me. You will hear our voices in the instructions on SeeSaw and the activities will be more familiar to your students. Our goal in designing these lessons is to make learning at home comfortable for your students and something that they feel they can do independently and confidently because it is what they are used to doing from class. Our other goal is trying to provide another option in how your student completes their work. We understand that there is a lot that needs to be done with technology, but we are now trying to provide you more options where your student can use paper and pencil as well. With this being said, your student can then take pictures of their work and upload it to SeeSaw. SeeSaw will continue to be the hub for your students to complete their daily assignments for literacy, math, social studies/science. Please make sure that you are going there daily for your students to hear instructions, complete assignments, turn in work, etc. Otus will need to be checked on Monday's to view the agenda from me but it is now also the hub for all the specialists. Like art, music, P.E. and ALO will now be posting their own lessons in Otus. They have their own timelines, but my suggestion to you is: on Monday's take a look at our class agenda and work along with the work from the specialist. I know that there are assignments each day for P.E. but not necessarily for music, art and ALO. This will then allow you and your students to plan out when you want to do the rest of the assignments for the others. New Assignments Raz Kids: I am so excited to see so many students on Raz - Kids! Please know that on the Room 115 Clever page, the formal name to get to Raz Kids is Learning A-Z! I have assigned three books to your students to read and listen to! Their first assignment today is to listen to a book and tell me about it! Please let me know if you have any issues. The nice thing about Raz - Kids is that it is all leveled books, I assign the books and I can monitor how your students are doing and their reading. Heggerty and Word Sorts: Today your students will see that they have been assigned to a color and set of words. These are our word study groups that fall in line with Heggerty and learning about different word patterns. All your students have had experience with the activities that they need to do each day to study their words and play with their words. Each activity can be done either as a hard copy (pencil & paper) or electronically. SeeSaw Blog: SeeSaw is now becoming more private to protect your students' work. Please make sure that you are logging into Clever and then going to the SeeSaw app through there and not the one on your students homepage. You will also see our new addition, SeeSaw blog. This will now be our community communication board where your students can send pictures of things they create, build, design etc! They can share and respond to each other here. Please note, that just like the work your students do, these things they post will be submitted to me first for approval before they are shown. So if your student does not see what they post right away, now you know why. Again, thank you to those who have sent in their students birthday cards for Shay! Please email them to me or have your student take a picture through SeeSaw to share it with me. I appreciate all your help in making sure that each student still has the opportunity to make their birthday just as special as if we were all in class together! Please know that all instructions and information is on our Room 115 Resource page in case you need to go back and see them! Thank you for taking the time to read this, I know it is long! I just want to keep you as informed as I can and make sure things are as easy as they possibly can for you! I miss learning with your students and our classroom community very much!!

Hi Room 115 Families,
I hope you have had a good day! Sorry for the long emails this week, but I want to help you and your student with the transition to next week. The upcoming Activities in Seesaw will be more familiar and similar to work we have done in the classroom, and your child will hear Miss Smith and I in the videos and voice directions. Please make sure your child has logged in to Seesaw through Clever so s/he sees the correct Activities, as they will become individualized. Next week your child will be introduced to RAZ Kids. Please make sure the app is ready on your child’s iPad. Find Raz-Kids in the Self-Service app Press “install” Press the Home button to close Swipe through the iPad to find the Raz-Kids app Launch Raz-Kids and approve all the prompts (allowing microphone, audio, etc.) Make sure your child is logged in to Clever and able to find Miss Smith’s teacher page (that is where the Raz-Kids link will be) You may not need to enter the teacher name (rjoseph14) if you launch from Clever Also next week, your child will draw and write about the weather each day for the next several days. There will be an option to draw and write in Seesaw; however, it is more beneficial for your child’s cognitive and motor development to draw and write with paper and pencil/pen/crayon. Here is an optional printable version of the journal writing paper to make several copies of (10 or more) and staple into a book format. Your child can also just use blank paper or a notebook. This is an opportunity to remove some screen time and make the activity feel more like the classroom experience. Lastly, in honor of transitions, I will be posting some of our class's favorite Go Noodle videos in Seesaw. At school, your child had many natural, transitional, and intentionally planned breaks throughout the day. Give them a try at home too! Also, please make sure to send me your students birthday page for Shay by Monday, the 20th! You can email me a picture, or have your student send it to me through SeeSaw! As always the information in this email will be added to our Room 115 Resources. Tomorrow, student lessons for specials will be on Otus! Please make sure to login through Clever so that you can see the lesson tab on the right side! Hi Room 115!
I hope that you all had a great weekend and a good start to the week! I just wanted to check in with all of you and share what some of the week is going to look like for your students! The agenda has posted again in Otus for your review and so that you know what assignments will be done on each day! Again, continue to do what you can and don't fight the struggle! Please feel free to take breaks and come back to things as you see fit! The activities will still be in SeeSaw, please do not feel pressure to use Otus to see the agenda then. Otherwise the only thing Otus will be used for is lessons from our specialists. I was made aware that there are some technical issues getting to the lessons. I have passed along that information and when I hear of any updates I will let you know. Some of the specials teachers are starting to use SeeSaw as a form of communication. No rush, but if you wanted to play around with SeeSaw this week to find the different class pages you can. I know that this is one way you can also share your art projects with Mrs. Pressman by taking pictures of your work and sending them directly to her class page. In order to do this though there are something you will need to know/do to help your student.
Good Evening Room 115!
I hope that you all had a good week and that everything is starting to fall into place for you! Tomorrow, Friday the 10th, is different from the rest of the week. This is the day your students will have all their specials work to do. I wanted to remind you of the changes that happen on Friday and what a typical week will look like starting on Monday.
Attached to this email are directions to help your students log into Otus and find the lessons that need to be done for specials. I recognize that Otus has been difficult for many families to find these lessons. Please make sure that you are using your students iPad, and go through the Clever app to find Otus. The Otus app is on the home screen once you are logged into Clever. You will need to scroll down on the main page to find the app. Please make sure that you have set up your students Otus account from the emails from Kevin Ryan last Friday (the 3rd) to access your students page. The directions to find the lessons on Otus are linked: HERE . They will also be found on the Room 115 Resource page. Week 1 of e learning is almost done and I cannot thank you enough for all your partnership and patience through all of this. It is truly a team effort and I appreciate your continued support through all of this. Please continue to reach out if you need anything at all. Whatever I can do to help create routine and a new sense of normal with learning possible I will do! I miss learning and being with your students and look forward to the day that we can all be back in Room 115! Hi Room 115!
I hope you are all continuing to do well! We are halfway through the week and I would like to thank you all for your continued teamwork as we figure out how to navigate the tech world videos and new way of learning and finding lessons. I wanted to share some things that I am learning and will be doing on my end for your students through both SeeSaw and Otus. SeeSaw SeeSaw is our class community work space. It allows your students to see and comment on each other's work, share pictures and videos with each other and be used as a sounding board. Due to the fact all students can see each other's work, not all SeeSaw activities may be approved. I want the journal feed to be a community workplace for all students. In order to respect each child's work space, some of the activities will be approved and some will be kept private for teacher review. Therefore, you will not receive a notification for each activity that your student completes. With that being said, some of the activities that your students have done already may end up bouncing back into the activities tab. Some of you have reached out to inquiry about this. Your student does not need to do the activity again and it can be ignored. Understanding that this week is made for a slow roll out and to hopefully work out all the kinks, please understand that you may see some of the activities again in that tab and that is okay! If for some reason I am not seeing any activities from your or hearing from them, I will reach out to you to check in. Otherwise, the way that things have been working now with the activities tab and how your students are sending them to me is perfect! Otus I recognize that some people are struggling a bit with Otus to find the agenda or marking their students work as complete. Through the research that I have been able to do I have found two ways to do this. 1. Using your students iPad, login to Clever. The lessons tab is on the left side column. Here you can see the Agenda that I have provided that is the same as the class board. You will also be viewing your students specials lessons there as well when they are posted on Friday. 2. If you are using your parent Otus account, I am told it is a bit like a Facebook Newsfeed. When you are scrolling through it you should see: students name has been given an assignment. By clicking that you should be able to access what the assignment is and mark it as completed. This Friday will be the first time students will have to go and log on to Otus Lessons to find the information about the specials. We will try our best to figure it out for everyone to have access to it! I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any more questions or need anything else from me! It has been great seeing your students faces and having time to talk with them each morning! Hi Room 115 Families!
It was so nice seeing all of you yesterday in Zoom! Thank you for working out the tech issues with me and all of your great questions. Again, as I find out information and new ways to support your students or information from the district you will hear from me! Today the first literacy lessons have gone out on SeeSaw in the activities tab! Give one or all of them a try today. Make sure you have also taken a look at Otus to find the agenda. I have learned a little bit more information about Otus for you. On the parent side, it should say "Student Name has been assigned a lesson." If you click the link it should allow you to mark completed to let me know that you have seen it. If you cannot find this that is okay! I have put the agenda in the classboard as well. I am getting feedback that the agenda is small and somewhat blurry. I will work on making sure that it is uploaded better in the future! I apologize, I have taken a picture of it zoomed in as best I can. You can see the images of what the activities are but not the written instruction. The written instruction you will be able to see in SeeSaw, you should just have an idea of what to look for for each activity! Finally, the powerpoint from yesterday is up on Room 115 Resources, I have also attached it to this email for you in case you wanted to see it again! Moving forward with your students, today begins our daily check in at 10 am! As I had previously shared yesterday, we have updated our Zoom accounts to make sure that they are more secure for your students. I had to update the zoom URL in the clever app. Please make sure Zoom is downloaded through Self Service on your students iPad so that they can log into our class Zoom through Clever without the meeting id and password. I did test it out using a students log in on my personal iPad and it worked! So fingers crossed it will be successful! But if for some reason that does not work, here is the Zoom link for our morning meeting so you have it. Please email me if you need the zoom URL. Have a great day and looking forward to seeing your students soon! Hello Room 115!
I hope you are all doing well! We have made it through Week 1 and I would like to continue to thank you for your partnership as we continue to learn together! I wanted to share a couple of things with you: 1. Mystery Doug is having a live show on Tuesday April 7th at noon! It is a 20 minute science show. If you cannot make it live, you can watch it after! Here is the link: https://mysteryscience.com/live 2. I have added a Mojo video and Dot Card for students to do today or over the weekend! 3. I will be sharing a story over SeeSaw this afternoon! 4. Please continue to check SeeSaw for continued resources and activities for your students -- remember if there is ever a resource provided that you would like to use or need again it can be found on the Room 115 Resources Page Please do not forget that we have the parent informational meeting for what learning will look like and some of the expectations on Monday, April 6th at 10am and 2pm. Here are the Zoom links for you to access the meeting! Meeting at 10 am: please email me for Zoom URL Meeting at 2 pm: please email me for Zoom URL Again, please let me know if you are unable to attend either time! I look forward to seeing you all on Monday! Please don't hesitate to reach out if there is anything that I can do for you or that you need help with! Hi Room 115 Families!
I hope that you are all doing well and that this week went smoothly for you and your students! I am continuing to post activities in SeeSaw for your students to check in on. I know there was discussion about a potential Zoom for tomorrow, unfortunately, I have trainings all day in continued preparation for e learning and remote learning. But I will be sharing a story over SeeSaw tomorrow for your students! Next week we will begin our regular Zoom check ins at 10 am. This Monday, April 6th, I will be hosting a parent informational meeting to share what learning will look like for the week. This will share with you a little bit about where to find the lessons and what they will look like. There will be two times for you to choose from (10am and 2pm). If you cannot make either time, please let me know. Please make sure you also save this email so you can have access to the Zoom URL codes. Meeting at 10 am: please contact me for Zoom URL Link Meeting at 2 pm: please contact me for Zoom URL Link I also know that some people had some troubles with our Zoom session on Tuesday. After doing some research, I learned that you have to make sure that you have downloaded the Zoom app through the self service app and not the App store. I have attached the directions at the bottom of this email in case you accidentally used the app store instead of the self service app. If this does not work, please contact: [email protected] . Once the app is downloaded through self service, you will be able to have access to our Zoom meetings through Clever. Finally I would love for you to check out this article! In this strange time I want to remind you that home is not school and that some days will be better than others and that is okay! As Mr. Hailpern always says "school cannot be replicated at home." My goal for all of you during this time is to make it as smooth as possible, continue to provide you with supplemental resources to assist and support the curriculum materials that are being provided through the district. I am here to help whenever you need it and I look forward to seeing all of you at one of the meeting times on Monday. Article Link: here Thank you again for your partnership. I miss all of your students and seeing all of you around the Braeside community. Stay well and do not hesitate to reach out if there is anything I can do for you! Good Morning Room 115!
This morning I have added two more student assignments in addition to the Heggerty video from yesterday. I have sent a Mojo video for students to watch about respect and then respond to! I am starting to add audio directions in addition to written instructions. This should allow your students to do the work independently now! I am also adding a Dot Card for your students to look at and respond to. This is formally known as a number talk in our class. We have done some number talks with dot patterns in class this year, and it would be a great math task for home. This kind of math activity and conversation is appropriate for your kindergarten child, adults, and siblings of all ages. Please watch this video to understand how to initiate this kind of number talk. If you would like to learn more, check out this video: https://vimeo.com/129139086. Look for new dot patterns to be posted in Seesaw. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out and ask questions! |
