Hello Room 108 Families!
I hope you are enjoying a nice weekend!! This past week was a wonderful week in getting back into routine! We completed our narrative small moments and had our first writing celebration! Your students wrote wonderful pieces on stories of their life! I look forward to sharing those with you. We also began unit 2 in math, looking at how 100's chart, ten frames, and number puzzle can help us add an subtract. We will continue adding to our strategies this week! In literacy we took the time to learn how to use a dictionary and online dictionary in finding out how to spell words, as well better understand them. We connected this to how we can continue our job as readers and learners and stop ourselves in our stories to make sure that we are really understanding everything we are reading. We now have a resource to help us if we do not know what a word means. This coming week, we will have our school wide hearing and vision test. We will also being have a guest author, Kevin Sherry on Wednesday!! Please bring in your book forms on Monday if you are interested in purchasing a book to be signed by him! The Yeti Files and Turtle Island are my personal favorites!! Also, this coming week I will be sending out information on Halloween and what to expect for getting ready to celebrate it at school! I cannot believe we are already halfway through October! I hope you continue to enjoy your weekend! As always, please do not hesitate to email with questions!

Good morning room 108!
I hope that you have had a wonderful weekend! I am so excited we will be getting back to a normal week! Last week, we studied number patterns and skip counting. We identified different ways to count and even and odd numbers. This has helped us with our first strategy in addition, counting on! In reading we have been focusing on identifying the challenge or main event in a story and how a character responds to it. As well as, how a character responds to that event or challenge. In writing we have finished our first unit, narrative small moments. We will be celebrating them this week! Not only that, but, we will begin our next writing unit on informational text. We will continue our study of liquids and their properties in science. As a reminder, please make sure your students are filling out their homework logs and will be ready to bring them in on Friday. Also, please make sure your students are not bringing in toys to school: pokemon cards, cars, dolls, etc. There have been issues of toys disappearing or being misplaced, and I would hate to see that happen to anyone in our class. I am looking forward to a full week back! Have a great day! Hello Room 108!
I hope that you have been enjoying your long weekend so far! Please remember we do not have school on Monday and Tuesday! This past week we completed our unit of place value and comparing numbers. We are going to begin looking at number patterns and skip counting and how that helps us with adding and subtracting. In social studies, we began looking at the different types of communities we have and the importance of how we use them. We learned about how Highland Park is a suburb and the important places that we work, play and live. We also compared our suburb to urban Chicago, and rural areas like Champaign. In science, we went outside to explore solids and their properties. This week we will look at how liquid properties vary from solids. In writing we are getting ready for publishing. We will be completing our small moment narratives, and getting ready to share them during our writing celebration on Friday! As a reminder, please make sure that your students are filling out their reading logs and bringing them in on Friday. Also please remind them to check their assignment notebooks. I want to help your students learn how to check in and reflect on their work to help them gain confidence and independence on knowing what they need to do. I hope you enjoy the long weekend! |
