Hi Room 115 Families!
I hope that you have had a wonderful weekend! We have a very exciting and big week ahead. Please read the important information part carefully so you know all the details. In class this week we completed our Life in a Pond Resource Guides and pond murals. We also learned two more letters this week and have completed our second group of letters. We have officially learned 13 letters that we are working on building words with. We call it brave spelling in class, where students have the letters in front of them and they put them together and are learning how to sound out words and manipulate parts of the word to recreate a new word. In math we have been explored combinations and patterns along with shapes. In science we have recently added pond snails to our classroom and have began learning more about animals that we have in ponds. This relates back to our literacy and social studies unit about communities and ponds. We have also completed our community maps and work places. We are now taking more time to go into them now and explore how the community works together. This week is halloween and Red Ribbon week. Below is the information you need to know. Important Information Halloween is this Wednesday! If you haven't filled out this form yet, please do so I can make sure your students get to where then need to be. LINK Please remember if you are taking your student home to bring them back by 12:40 so they can be part of the parade that starts at 1pm! We will be leading the parade! Red Ribbon week is a great way to talk to your students about making smart choices, living a healthy life, gratitude and homelessness. This week we will have dress up days. Hi Room 115 Families!
I hope that you had a wonderful weekend and start to the week! I cannot believe that we are in our 10th week of school, and even more so that the month of October is nearly over. Here is the Halloween link, please click this link to let me know whether your student is staying at school or going home for lunch and to change into their halloween costume! Remember, students who are staying for lunch will change into their costume after they eat. Please make sure that their costume is packed in a bag and easy for them to change into. There will be some helpers for students if they need assistance but they will need to change into the majority of the costume on their own. If you picking up your student please make sure to bring them back by 12:40 so that they can be in the parade! We have had a very busy last week and we're off to a very busy and exciting week again! We have officially finished our pond animal writing and research and have moved onto our pond plan research and writing! We are learning about tally marks and groups of five in math, as well as learning about different combinations of numbers and ice cream flavors. We have been working on a STEM challenge of how many different combinations of ice cream cones with two scoops with 4 flavors, 5 flavors, 6 flavors, 7 flavors and 8 flavors! In social studies we have finished our community maps and are looking at how things are connected in a community and what is important to make our own community maps/world work together. In literacy and writing, we have now learned 12 letters and will be adding on two more letters this week. We are working on sounding out three letter words and building words with the letters we know! I am looking forward to the rest of the week! As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to email or ask! Reminder: remember to sign up for conferences! Looking forward to seeing you all and sharing the growth of your students with you! Hi Room 115 Families,
I hope that you have had a nice day and Monday! We had a very exciting first day back. In social studies, we began creating our community map. We read about maps, and looked at pictures of communities to learn how to develop our own map. In literacy and writing we are also still learning about ponds and our community. We have officially written three chapters of our Pond Life books. From research and reading we have been able to take what we have learned to create a resource guide. In math we are looking at numbers less than and greater than 10. We are also focusing on teen numbers (11-19). We have also been studying different ways to group numbers and see different ways to add or make numbers. In science we are still studying guppies, along with birds and different types of birds we see in the community versus a pond. For those of you who have heard of SSB (Student Success Block) it is a time where all kindergarten students will be working with different teachers and small groups on literacy, math or word work skills. Every couple of weeks the groups will change and students will have an opportunity to work with new students, teachers and skills. This is a new way to differentiate the learning of all students and provide them with new challenges and practices! Important Information 1. The student and Family Engagement Survey window will open today, October 15th, through October 22nd. Please make sure to fill this out for Braeside and District 112 Feedback 2. Halloween is right around the corner, please be on the lookout soon for a survey to let me know if your student will be staying at school and changing into their costume or if they will be going home for lunch and costume change and coming back. 3. Students will not be able to wear their costumes in the morning of Halloween, only after lunch 4. The Halloween parade starts promptly at 1pm. If you are bringing your student home for lunch and the costume change please make sure they are back at 12:40pm. Kindergarten leads the parade and we don't want anyone to be missing from the parade. If your student is staying at school please send their costume in a plastic bag that they can change into after lunch. There will be people to help them change, but make sure your student practices at home too! Homework! Now that the weather is changing, please make sure that your student is practicing zipping, buttoning, velcro, etc. their own jackets, mittens and boots! This is a great way to help your students foster independence along with making sure they can feel good about doing it on their own when they get to school. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask! Have a wonderful rest of the week! Hi Room 115 Families!
I hope that you had a wonderful long weekend! I am so excited to be back at school and begin this week with your students. We are officially starting our first writing and literacy project! We have been studying environments and different communities and have combined science, literacy and writing together to make a cross curricular study! We have been learning about the pond and different pon animals and pond plat life and will be creating our very own resource guides to ponds! In math we are working on counting, 1 to 1 correspondence with numbers and looking at numbers that are greater than or less than another number. We are also continuing to work on adding and finding different ways to solve a problem. In Social studies we are going to continue working on our community project. We are going to start exploring the concept of a map and why they are important! In science, we will continue to study our guppies and and pond life compared to where we live. As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask! |
