Hello 109 Families!
I hope that you were able to enjoy this rainy weekend! We had a wonderful week last week with an author visit from Kevin Sherry, learning about fractions, exploring character development in writing and exploring community leaders in our world and everyday community! This week we will be MAP testing this Monday and Tuesday morning. I want to remind you that this is about the test taking experience and learning how to take an online assessment. This is a way to showcase growth for the students and to see what they have accomplished this year. Not only that but, it will provide me and the third grade teachers with the knowledge of what levels all of the students are at before going into third grade so we can start preparing them for further success in third grade. I know that they will all do a fantastic job!!! I am so proud of all their hard work this year. As for the rest of the week, we will begin studying our final unit of study in adaptation and change. It will bring our past units of change and individuality all together. We will continue to explore different types of writing. In math we will be taking a closer look fractions and arrays. Make sure your students have a good breakfast tomorrow and are on time for school!

Hello Room 109 Families! I hope that you all are having a great start to the week! Last week was amazing! We had a wonderful time on the field trip learning about plants and seeds and how they grow. In math we have begun looking at repeated addition and area. The beginning steps of multiplication as well as now getting a look at fractions and the math language that we use with it. We celebrated earth day by working on a project with Ms. Goldners class looking at different ways we can lend a helping hand to our world. We also had a first diversity day meeting where we learned about braille and how to read it! This week we will have our author visit today by Kevin Sherry. We are going to be exploring how plants grow once the seed begins to sprout! We will be diving into fractions and learning how to split shapes up into halves, thirds, and fourths. Writing we just celebrated poetry and will beginning to review and look at other styles that we can write in. Finally, we will be working hard to finish our STEAM night projects. As a reminder, this Thursday night is STEAM night and the used book sale. I will send out more information on this later with the details of timing and when everything will start! Also, there is early release on Friday at 1pm! Hello 109 Families!
I hope that you had another fabulous weekend enjoying this warm weather! Last week was a fast and busy week! We worked on geometry and shapes learning about different math language to use with shapes! We began looking at community leaders and how they are elected. We met with our fourth grade buddies and finished our games that we designed. This week is the end of poetry and we will be finalizing our poetry books and having our writing celebration. Finally we learned about soil and planting seeds. This was in preparation for our field trip this Thursday to the Botanic Gardens! I am so excited for our very first field trip this year! On Thursday we will be leaving school at 9:30, please make sure that your students are on time so that we can double check and make sure that we have everything ready to go before we leave. We will be coming back right before lunch (11:30/40). If for some reason you are picking up your student early please make sure to get them at or after lunch then. Unfortunately, looking ahead at the weather it is supposed to rain. Please make sure that your students wear closed toe shoes, pants, and have a jacket with a hood on it! Rain or shine we will be going! The field trip will be both indoors and outdoors if the weather holds up! As it gets closer to Thursday I will send one more reminder with an update of clothing for the students incase weather changes. I hope you all had a wonderful spring break! It is so nice to be back and get back into the swing of things! The week before spring break was busy and exciting - I am thoroughly impressed with all of the students genius hour projects and how they turned out! We continued poetry, 3 digit addition and subtraction, completed our contributors unit, and our study of rocks, sand and silt!
Today was a great start and great way to get back into everything! The students are starting square dancing in music, adding and subtracting by 10's and 100's. We will be beginning a new science unit about plants and animals and the environment. I am also excited we will be beginning literacy circles. We will be studying different aspects of the stories: character traits, story structure, illustrations and key details to discover setting, central message and more. I am looking forward to everything that's to come for the rest of the school year! I hope that you have a wonderful week! Feel free to contact me with any questions. |
