Hi Room 115!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Just wanted to give you a quick update! For Red Ribbon week Wednesday is actually red, white and blue day and Thursday is Braeside spirit wear day! I mixed those days up in my original email! Also, attached is a survey for you to fill out about your students and how they are getting ready for Halloween at school! As a reminder, students can get read for Halloween after they eat their lunch here at school. Please make sure that your student has practiced putting their costumes on by themselves. There will be help available, but students need to know how to put on the majority of it on. Or, you can pick your students up and have them eat lunch and change at home. If you are picking up your student you can pick them up from our kindergarten door A5 at 11:45. Please make sure your have your student back by 12:40 so they can be on time for the parade at 1:00pm. Please fill out this link Halloween Costume Survey to let me know what your student is doing. Also, our class has been chatting about how much candy they might collect while trick-or-treating. They have some high expectations! :) We've also been counting large quantities by tens in class lately. So we had an idea to use ten frames at home to organize and count the candy collected from trick-or-treating. I will send ten frames home with your child tomorrow (so check the home folder). I would love for each family to participate! If you want to email me a picture or video of your child counting the candy, I will share it in class. Or you can have your child bring in the total on a piece of paper. We will graph our data in class! Hi Room 115 Families!!
I hope that you have had a wonderful week! We have had a busy week writing stories, learning letters, observing ponds and more! In literacy we have added three more letters: R, M, D. We also practiced reading the pictures and telling the story without the words. We talked about how this can be a prereading strategy to get us ready to think about what will happen in a book, along with using the pictures to help us find the word that makes sense with it. In writing we focused on telling a "three finger story". Each finger is matched with the beginning, middle and end of what happens in a story. We then took these ideas and put it across three papers to tell our story. In science we took a deeper look at different pond animals. We studied ducks, dragonflies and frogs. We even created a venn diagram on them that will be up shortly on SeeSaw. In social studies we learned all about maps! On a blank poster board, the students have placed their community work places and are developing their own community. Today we created streets and talked about the means of transportation we need to get to the different places in our community. In math we finished our ice cream cone combinations. We graphed the data and learned how to make observations and see the difference between the number of scoops and combinations that you can make. We also worked on created numbers with ten frames and counting by 10's! Important Information Next week will be just as busy and exciting because it is also Red Ribbon week in addition to Halloween! For those of you that do not know, Red Ribbon is a way we talk to students about having a healthy life. Each day next week will cover a different topic to help us learn all about being healthy. Attached is the list of items and even dress up days. Each day is a different dress up day that is meant to be for fun. It is not required to dress up but can be done if students would like. Monday: neon or bright clothes day Tuesday: what you want to be when you grow up Wednesday: Braeside day Thursday: wear red and then costumes in the afternoon Friday: PJ Day the attachment has more information on each day and costume - if you forget you can always check the website or SeeSaw Halloween Halloween is on Thursday and I am so excited to celebrate it with your students! Please note that your students will bring their costume to school on and change into them after they eat. How can you help make this easy on your student: 1. Make sure they practice getting into their costume by themselves there will be adults to help, but it will be to zipper and button but not to assist the putting on process. **Masks and weapons are not allowed at school** note from Mr. Hailpern 2. Send your students costume in one bag that they can carry - it will help prevent anything from being lost and they know where to find everything 3. The Halloween parade will start around 1:00 and tends to go by very fast. If you are attending, kindergarten leads the parade and I would hate for you to miss our walk! It happens right in the front of the school on the sidewalk. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and am very excited for the fun of next week! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask! Hi Room 115!
I hope that you have had a wonderful weekend and great start to the week! Last week was an awesome week! We spent time learning more letters, writing words and starting to practice sight words (words that we need to just know). This week in literacy we will begin reading and learning about ponds. We will also connect this to science. We will be learning about the different animals and plants that live there. We will also be getting some of the animals to observe in our class! In math we are starting a new group math project. We will be working on different math combinations and patterns. This will be done in small groups, where your students will have the opportunity to learn how to work as a team, take turns, collaborate and more! In social studies, we are still working on our community project and looking at the different buildings that our community workers work at. On Friday, we celebrated the cardboard challenge! This was an opportunity for our class and Miss Smith's class to collaborate and use their imagination to build and design with boxes. If you would like to learn more about it, I posted a video on SeeSaw about where the cardboard challenge came from. Important Information 1. This week we do NOT have school on Wednesday. If you are fasting please have a safe fast! 2. There is no school on Monday the 14th for Columbus day 3. There is no school on Tuesday the 15th either If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask! Have a wonderful week and a safe fast to those who are celebrating the holiday! |
