Good morning Room 115!!
I hope that you have been off to a great start this week! We have been very busy last week and this week! In math we have been focusing on solid or 3d shapes along with different strategies to help us add and subtract. In literacy we have been reading different stories about family and culture. We have also been working on our writing a lot! We have been writing regularly in our writing journals working on our brave spelling and how to use uppercase and lowercase letters in writing. We also have been working on a our very first writing project. Your students have learned how to write letters. For Valentine's day each student has written a letter to each member of the classroom. Please keep in mind each student is at a different level when you read the letters with your students. Each letter is a compliment to the student. We talked about the importance of being kind and that Valentine's day is a time to celebrate the friendships we have made in class! Please take the time to read these with your students and help decipher them as best as you can. Some of the compliments we discussed are games we liked to play together, why the person is kind to them, how they make them feel and more. We also connected this to our social studies unit and learned about the community mail. We learned how to address an envelope, the importance of a stamp, and how to mail it. We also learned about how the mail works and what happens at a post office. Your students are very proud of their hard work and I am so proud of them on this long project! The compliment card project was in addition to the Valentine's that your students could bring in for the party. Please remember that bringing in additional Valentine's is optional, but there must be one for each student in the class (15 students). You can bring in your Valentine's on Thursday morning, we will be passing them out during our party! Some other reminders. On Thursday, the 14th, we have early release and will be getting out at 1pm. We also do not have school on Friday, Monday (Presidents Day) or Tuesday. Please enjoy your long weekend and do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions! Also as a reminder, if you ever want to see pictures of what we have been doing in class, please check our class blog to see the weekly pictures or update reminders!
