Hi Room 115 Families!
I hope that you had a wonderful weekend! I cannot believe that it is already the end of 2019 and the first half of kindergarten! It has been such a pleasure learning with your students so far and partnering with all of you! I am so proud of all of the growth that your students have reached! As this week comes to an end we are finishing up many of our projects so that we are ready to start fresh in 2020!! We are ending our study of teen numbers and creating our teen-sicles! Please ask your students about these and how they can understand the differences with their tens and ones and how teen numbers are formed. In literacy we will have officially finished learning all of our consonants and vowels this week. We are now working on making words, writing the sounds we hear, reading these words, sight words and more! When we come back from winter break we will be focusing on blends and those sneaky letters that we find in the make up of words. We are also finishing our research of winter animals and whether they migrate, hibernate or adapt. This week your students will take their research and in small groups create the home of one of the animals that they had researched and teach it to the class! Important Information 1. Steam Night is this Thursday, December 18th! Please join us from 6:00 - 7:00 pm to celebrate our Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics at Braeside! All of our students have been working hard to share their research projects and arts with us. It is also the time to pick up your Baker Boys cupcakes if you ordered one! 2. Early Release this Friday! Please remember that this Friday, December 20th, is early release at 1:40pm. Please make sure that your students know how they will be getting home on this day. Thank you again for a wonderful start of the school year! I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to be learning with all of your students. If you are traveling over winter break have safe travels! Enjoy, relax and have a happy and healthy New Year! Looking forward to seeing you all in 2020!

Hi Room 115 Families!
I hope that you have had a great weekend! We had a wonderful week getting back into routine! This week we started our math project of studying the value of teen numbers. We also looked at the order of numbers and understanding how to use the tens place to determine numbers that are greater than or less than. In literacy we focused on beginning sounds sorts and continuing to learn more letters. This week we will be having new success block groups with a focus on word study. This will include sounding out, writing and reading of word families, blends and more! Your students will have the opportunity to work with different teachers and students in kindergarten as we begin this new study! In science we are taking a closer look at how animals survive winter and whether they have to adapt, migrate or hibernate and where they do this. This week is also very exciting because we have educating outside the lines occurring! This week we will be taking the time to learn about different disabilities and inclusiveness. We will be having a school assembly and individual lessons that will allow your students to learn more about the abilities of others. Also this week we will be MAP testing on Tuesday (10th) and Wednesday (11th) first thing in the morning! If your student is not here for some reason that is okay, we will make sure that they have the opportunity to take it later. Please remember that the purpose of these assessments are to listen to the directions and for your student to complete it to the best of their ability. This will continue to be a baseline of data for them to show me your students growth and where I can continue to support them. It is just one of the many points that make up their educational experience. Important Information 1. 2nd and 3rd grade sing is this Wednesday at 6:30 pm 2.
