Hi Room 115!
I hope that you are all staying warm and safe on this snow day! Please be on the lookout for further school changes, especially this Wednesday from Mr. Hailpern and Dr. Lubelfeld for freezing temperatures and/or snow. This week in class we continued to study letter blends and work on our brave spelling. We are taking the time to really listen to each word and hear the sounds within it. After reading a word we write we go back and read it to ourselves to make sure we have all the sounds that we are hearing. This is to help begin our formal writing lessons. We have began using a weekly writing journal to practice our writing and learning how to reflect on the things that we do. This week we will learn more about writing a formal letter to a friend or family member. In math, we have continued to learn about making shapes and how to define them. We used geoboards, trace patterns, and more to understand the difference between flat and solid shapes. We also are learning how to use a number line to help us add or subtract within 20. In social studies we are learning more about farms and have begun to create them! Just like our community unit, we are creating our own farm and helping to take what we have learned in our reading and bring it to life. Thank you for sending in all of the boxes and toilet paper rolls to help us. Please keep sending them in if you have them! Announcements: 1. Knowing our winter sing is this Wednesday, please keep in mind, if there is no school there is also no winter sing that night. It will be moved to February 6th if and only if there is no school this Wednesday, January 30th. 2. Valentine's day is around the corner! We will be having a Valentine's day party in class. We will be passing out Valentine's in class. Please know that each student will pass out a Valentine to every person in class. There are 15 students in Room 115. I will send home a list of all student names so that if you choose to personalize each Valentine you have the names. It is optional to send in Valentine's, but if you do choose to do it, it has to be to all 15 students. Planning in advance, Valentine's Day, February 14th, is also an early release day. There is also no school on February 15th. 3. WE School Announcement: The Braeside Soup-er Bowl is here again! Classrooms will compete for the Soup-er Bowl title and a special prize! Starting Monday, January 28 through Friday, February 1, kids can bring in cans of soup and ramen **ALL SIZES NEEDED** to help the Moraine Township Food Pantry. Bins will be located outside all classrooms and daily tallies will be shared as the week goes on. Which class will be our champion collectors this year?? I hope that you have a wonderful day and stay warm! As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask!

Hi Room 115!
I hope that all of you had a wonderful winter break and are back into routine! We sure are and it has been a great start to 2019!! As a class we have created new goals that we will aim for the second half of the year. In math, we are looking closer at different shapes, sorting, and patterns. We are also taking a closer look at subtracting with in 10. In literacy we have begun reading groups! I am starting to work with small groups of students on sight words and short books. We are learning how to sound out words, use pictures to help us determine what words we are reading and identifying sight words! We are also learning all about farms. Right now we are researching the different buildings, animals and crops that are found on a farm. Like the community project, students will be working in groups to create their own farm using their research. This will also run hand in hand with our science and social studies unit. In music we are getting ready for our big winter sing. We are looking forward to performing for you on January 30 at 6:30 pm. It is also a special time for district 112 because of iRead. You should have seen the reading logs come home to chart your reading and minutes. Attached is another copy of the reading log, digitally, if that is easier for you to use or if you have misplaced your copy! iRead is a great way to encourage your students to read and spend time exploring new books. Today, we kicked off iRead with a kindergarten read in! Your students can already add 30 minutes to today's date, or more if you continue to read tonight! There will also be days where you can come in before school at 8:10am to the library, where your students can add extra reading minutes! I will be in the library this Wednesday morning if your student is interested to read with students before school. Reminders, there is early dismissal on Friday and no school on Monday because of MLK day. Skate night is also coming up if you would like to put it on your calendar for Sunday afternoon, January 27th. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask! |
