Hi Room 115 Families,
I hope that you are having a great weekend! It was so much fun to see some of you at the FUNd run on Saturday! This past week was very busy for us! We spent a lot of time using our six letters to learn how to create two, three and even a few four letter words! We talked a lot about using brave spelling and taking the time to sound out each letter we hear. This week we will begin learning our next set of letters to add to it! In social studies we began learning about our community! We are learning about who makes a community, what we have in a community and how community is built. We also began our community project where each student is a community helper and has to be part developing their own small community. I’m math we are looking at different ways to make ten. We are also beginning to look at how to write our beginning addition statements with ten! This week we will also begin our first science unit! We will be looking at animals and their different homes and environments which will connect back to what we are doing in literacy and social studies! I am looking forward to continuing to work on all these exciting projects with your students! As a reminder this week we have early dismissal on Friday at 1:00pm. Along with no school on Monday the 10th for Columbus Day. I hope that you enjoy the rest of your weekend! As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to email and ask!

Hi Room 115 Families!!
I hope that you are having a wonderful weekend and first weekend of fall! I am looking forward to getting back to a regular schedule and having a full week of school. This week we worked on the letter P and N. We have officially completed our first six letters. With these letters students can start making short words and are realizing how sounds can blend together! This week we focused on making using those letters and making different words with "at". In literacy, we have been focusing on two books, Where is Home, Little Pip? and A House for Hermit Crab. These two books have a theme of home and we have been comparing and contrasting what home looks like to us, the meaning of home along with studying different types of homes! In math, we are looking at different ways to make five. We are also working on writing our numbers up to 20. Please make sure you bring your library books back tomorrow since we will have the opportunity to check out new books. This week we will continue working on word sorts and looking at words and pictures that start with the same letter. We will be digging deeper into the number five and extending it to 10. We will also be taking a closer look at our own community and what makes it up! Reminders: 1. Picture day is this Wednesday 2. Please sign up for the Fun Run this Saturday at Ravinia Festival! - You can sign up on the Braeside website! I hope to see you all there!! I am looking forward to this week and hope that you enjoy the rest of your weekend! As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask! Hi Room 115 Families!
I hope that you are enjoying another long weekend! We had a wonderful short week last week! We learned all about the letter Aa and the two different sounds it makes. We did the tower building challenge, exploring different color patterns and combinations we could make. We learned all about the base ten frame and what the number ten looks like. In literacy, we started working on retelling what happens at the beginning, middle and end of a story. We also began working on character traits and describing the characters that we meet in our stories. For writing, we have been working on labeling our drawings with the first letter we hear. We are even trying to stretch that out to see what other letters we hear in a word in attempts of making our best brave spelling! We have done this with our science observations in class. In class we have observed a grasshopper, praying mantis and cicada that we found at recess! This week is another short week. As a reminder we do not have school on Monday because of the holiday! This week we will be adding two more letters to our letter bank. Taking a closer look into base ten frames, counting and math observations. In literacy, we are continuing our text study of Where is Home, Little Pip? and much more! A couple more reminders: 1. Picture day is September 26th 2. If you would like to sign up for the Fun Run on September 29th at Ravina Festival gates 3. There is also no school on September 19th To those of you celebrating Rosh Hashanah, have a happy and sweet new year! Enjoy the long weekend and looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday. We are going to be adding another letter on this week. But right now we are practicing writing a capital and lowercase S. Along with practicing the sound by finding words that have the "S" sound in it. At recess we have been exploring different types insects that we find. We have done some research on cicadas and grasshoppers. If your students are interested in watching more videos on them they can go on our website to PebbleGo underneath the science tab! In library we checked out books for the first time. Those books are due on Mondays, but because there is no school this week, if you bring them back on Tuesday we will find a new time to check out books!
