Hello Room 108 Families!!
I hope that you enjoyed your snow day and the rest of your weekend! This Will be another exciting week ahead! We were going to begin Genius Hour on Friday, but due to the snow day we will be beginning it this week. This week you will also be hearing more about what that is if you want to look out for that email soon! This past week we looked at rocks and their properties, along with how rocks weather. This week we will eb exploring the weathering process and what that looks like. In social studies we are going to be looking at where landforms are located and how they are created. In math we are studying the relationship between repeated addition and multiplication. Students are starting to making the connection between the properties of the two concepts and we will be doing a math project with that. In writing we reviewed how to write a topic sentence and add details to a paragraph. We are focusing on elaboration and how to give our readers more information. We are also beginning to look at essay writing as well as letter writing and the format of them. This month as a class we are going to focus on what it means to be a team, and continued focus on having a growth mindset. With the Olympics on this month, it is a great way for the students to connect what they are learning in school about being part of a team, working together, cooperation, positivity and more to what team USA does as they compete for a gold medal. I think this is a great real world connection for students to see the skills that they are learning in school about being a good friend, cooperation, overcoming challenges, and motivation really do connect with what happens outside of the classroom! We also will be doing a medal count, looking at the different countries and connecting that aspect of social studies and math together! This week we will also be having our Valentine's day celebration! We will have our party on Valentine's day, this Wednesday! Please remember that if each student is going to pass out Valentine's that there is one for each student in the class. If there is candy attached that is more than fine, but will be eaten at home! Finally, as a reminder, we have early release this Friday at 1pm!

Good morning 108 Families!
I hope that you had a wonderful weekend and a good start to the week! Yesterday was an exciting day for us as we had our writing celebration! The students did a wonderful job crafting their nonfiction texts and have published them and they are in our classroom library. We also finished our research yesterday on African Americans. Where we also created a Wordle project using the computers. This week we will be finishing up our measurement unit in math. We will begin talking about the olympics and some of the countries. In science, we will be taking a closer look at rocks and how they weather. In literacy we are learning about story maps, and taking the skills we have learned throughout reading so far this year and applying them all while we read! This week we will also begin genius hour! You can expect another email from me explaining a little bit more of what that will entail. In short, it is a project that your students will get to choose, research and create a project. This will be done mostly in class, but may spill over a bit at home, if your child chooses to do extra work on it! I am very excited for this to begin! As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to email or call me! Thank you and have a great rest of your week! |
